The school was named &#8216;H\u00f6here Fachschule f\u00fcr Wirkerei und Strickerei&#8217; which means a school for knitting and embroidering in English. In the 1950s, the biggest school for textile and clothing production of the GDR was situated in the buildings. About 700 students were educated simultaneously to become engineers, foremen and technicians. After the GDR ceased to exist, some structures in the area were used by the Technical University Chemnitz for the faculties of economics and philosophy. However, they abandoned the whole area in the late 90s.
