The main factory was founded as &#8216;Karl-Wetzel-Maschinenfabrik&#8217; in 1852 and united with the factory &#8216;Werkzeugmaschinen Union&#8217; of Chemnitz in 1936. After the 2nd world war the factory owners got expropriated and each of the two united factories functioned as separated parts of the Werkzeugmaschinenkombinat &#8216;Fritz Heckert&#8217;. The factory in Gera produced drilling, milling and bending machines in the GDR and closed down in 1994.
