The patients were primarily miners, who got their lung diseases, resulting from their dusty work, treated there. In war times the building was also used as a hospital to treat wounded soldiers. After the Second World War it served use for the Soviet Army until 1991, when it became a hospital for paraplegics operating till 1997, then it finally closed down.
