The expropriation of the factory in the GDR was carried out gradually from 1964 until the Martinswerk became a state-owned enterprise (VEB) in 1972. Production was stopped in the mid-1980s. The hydroelectric power plant was restored by the initiative of Jochen K\u00f6hler. From 1985 until 1995, the facility was used as a juice factory. It was privatized again in 1991.
