Capturing decay.

Porcelain factory Kronester

The factory was founded by Johann Kronester as ‘J. Kronester & Co.’ in 1906 and construction finished in 1908. In the constantly expanded buildings they produced all sorts of porcelain products like household tableware and electro porcelain. The big tunnel kilns which are still there today were acquired in 1938 and replaced the old circular kilns. After the 2nd world war most of the products were designed by Hanz Achtziger like the bestseller porcelain set ‘Ulrike’. In the 1950s the administration building was expanded and a generator building as well as a new clay deposit were constructed. Four generations long, the factory was owned and led by the Kronester family. They cooperated with the ‘Bavaria-Porzellan-Union-GmbH’ since 1987 and reformed to the ‘SKV-Porzellan-Union’ in 1993. The new corporation consisted of the brands Schirnding, Kronester and Seltmann Vohenstrauß. Shortly after, the production was fully transferred to Schirnding and the family retreated from the holding. The buildings lay abandoned since then.
