Capturing decay.

Sanatorium Urbachtal

The sanatorium was built by W. Bartsch in 1959 who previously founded the ‘Reha-Centrum Urbachtal’. The new building had a capacity of 25 Patients, which was later increased to 45 and finally to 120. The sanatorium earned a good reputation all over Germany in its golden times. It was expanded with a gymnasium, two swimming pools with sauna and a big park with a minigolf course. They also researched on tumors and immunology in the clinic. However, the sanatorium went bankrupt in 2001 and had to close down for good in 2002. In the following years it changed its owner several times, but nothing was done about the buildings. Nowadays, the buildings are heavily damaged by vandalism and a fire which took place in the lobby.
