Capturing decay.

A long trip to Forst

Yes, a new trip again. Time goes by so fast. This day I headed to the city Forst right beside Cottbus. Very long drive for a day. The city lies right at the Polish border and I haven’t even heard of it before. Over the years I’ve been to a lot of cities but none of them were as rundown as Forst. There are so many vacant and run-down buildings lining the sides of the streets. I think I’ve never seen this many concentrated in such a small space before. I would have called it Germany’s Detroit, but of course it’s nowhere near this big and as dangerous. It’s rather melancholic walking through the streets with ruins everywhere without seeing any people on a Saturday afternoon. The industry once thrived in Forst. The city experienced a boom during the industrialization about 200 years ago. However today it’s a shadow of its former self. The textile factories, which were the city’s most important industry, all closed down and plunged the city into a big crisis. Today especially young people are moving away, making the problems even bigger. This time I had the chance to visit a heating plant and a textile factory legally. The latter was huge and really fun to explore. Since I took many photos it will take a while until I finish editing them, so stay tuned. I already planned to head back to Forst next year, there is just so much more to explore there.
