The brewery was founded in 1852 and used the water from the nearby spring to brew bear. In 1902, it was taken over by the family Schierholz. During the GDR it was expropriated and renamed in VEB (K) Burg-Bräu Plaue (Thüringen). It was already closed down in 1969 and is in a very bad shape today.
