The heating plant provided heat for the surrounding residential areas during its years of operation. The chimney of the former heating plant is 98 meters high, making it the highest building of the city Eisenach. After the end of the GDR it was almost instantly abandoned and heat was produced in a decentralized manner in the surrounding area.
