Capturing decay.

Train station Schneeberg-Neustädtel

The train station was built for the railway line Schlematalbahn approximately in the 1870s. In the building the local post office of the cities Schneeberg and Neustädtel was situated. In the year 1939 Neustädtel was incorporated to Schneeberg leading to the name change of the train station to ‘Bahnhof Schneeberg (Erzgeb.)’. During the 1920s the number of passengers quickly declined due to the upcoming competing bus transport, which ultimately led to the closure of the railway line in 1952. The building was used ulterior since then and was partially renovated in the 1990s. However, since then it was abandoned and decayed very quickly, with some floors breaking through due to water damage. Since 2010 the city Schneeberg is contemplating to demolish the building and already demolished the adjoining freight yard of the train station in 2012.
