Capturing decay.

Malt factory Rudolph Grosse

The malt mill was founded in 1885 under the name ‘Malzfabrik Allstedt Rudolph Grosse & Co. Aktiengesellschaft. During the GDR it belonged to the VEB Getränkekombinat Dessau. The factory closed down in the 1990s, but the buildings were used for all sorts of purposes in the following years. Birgit Hanisch operated a mushroom farm on the property, which produced 370 tons mushrooms in 2008. The farm eventually closed down and the building went completely abandoned. A roof crashed down and a fire damaged the structures during the late 2010s. Since 2021 plans exist to demolish the buildings and built a wood recycling plant in its place.
