Capturing decay.

Trip to Wolkenburg (I guess?)

Well today I had the plan to explore a big paper mill in the town Wolkenburg in Saxony. Looked very promising in the aerial photos and there were videos on YouTube of it. So…. I drove all the way there and was pretty excited. Not long after entering the property, I saw a gate with a brand-new lock and chain.. it was opened. This gave me second thoughts (I remembered I promised myself I don’t want to do the sketchy half abandoned stuff anymore). However I continued and it wasn’t long before I heard some commotion going on somewhere on the property. I hid in the bushes and suddenly a car drives by from behind me. Doesn’t notice me and parks right beside one of the factory halls. As I watched, I figured out that they are using a space between the two halls as their garden?? It was in great shape, with new huts on it… So I fled. I just don’t understand why you buy a gigantic industrial property to build a garden somewhere in between. That was that. All my backup locations also happened to be boarded up. At this time I changed directions and drove back to Crimmitschau where I luckily spotted an abandoned brewery on the roadside, which I explored. It wasn’t too big and I wanted to do more, but there weren’t any more abandoned buildings around, so I drove all the way up to Zeitz and explored the abandoned holiday home Otto Diehr, which I had on my list for a long time. Although the trip wasn’t as planned at all, I still managed to make good use of the day. And sometimes, even if nothing’s working out, you still have a great road trip. I like driving my car and I sure like exploring my country. Through Urbex and even failed Urbex trips I’ve been to a lot of places I would have never visited or seen because there simply is no reason to go there. It has always been and will always be one of the best activities I (or you) can do. Enough yapping, I just happened to be very happy.. Guess I somehow got hit with positive nostalgia for the Urbex-Mania of the years 19-22 while exploring today…. I am content with how things are but I still miss the ‘golden years’ and my partner in crime; sadly, life ripped us apart. Pictures will be up in the next weeks.
