In the year 1872 Carl Louis Oettel established a new and efficient brewery in Crimmitschau. Operating under the name Brauerei Carl Louis Oettel, the brewery produced beer using traditional brewing methods until 1938. After 1938, it was renamed Paradiesquellbrauerei C.L. Oettel. In 1976 the brewery became publicly owned and was renamed VEB Paradiesquellbrauerei. Following the end of the GDR in 1990 it was renamed Brauerei Crimmitschau. However, beer production in Crimmitschau ceased at the end of 1990 and the property has been deteriorating since then.
