The building was constructed in 1888 for an already established older Erfurt brewery, dating back to the beginning of the 19th century. After the First World War the company became part of a larger brewery conglomerate in 1920, producing approximately 100,000 hectoliters of beer. Following the Second World War the company was collectivised and gained remarkable success with the new brand they established in 1956. They produced several kinds of beer, with pilsner type being the most popular of them. After the fall of the Iron Curtain the business was privatised and continued producing under the old brand, with an output of 160,000 hectoliters of beer in 2005. However, in 2010 the plant was closed down due to the high maintenance costs of the old buildings. The brand is produced in Brunswick in a new factory nowadays. The old buildings sit abandoned ever since and only sometimes the grounds get brief attention as a parking lot.
