The factory was built in 1889 and produced several cosmetic products, with the main focus on soap. In its first years it was operated under the name ‘Oehmig-Weidlich’ and was owned by Hermann Thieme. In 1942, it was renamed in ‘C.H.Oehmig-Weidlich & Chemie Fabrik Dr. Carl Thieme’. The factory was expropriated in 1952 and renamed again in ‘VEB Zitza Werk Zeitz’. It was later integrated in the ‘VEB Deutsches Hydrierwerk Rodleben’. After the fall of the GDR it was bought by an entrepreneur but closed down soon after since it made too little profit.
