Capturing decay.

Freight yard Erfurt

The lack of space of the former freight yard in Erfurt became more and more of a problem, and in 1865, the Thuringian Railway Company purchased a large area in the east of the city to build a freight station. However, due to the German War in 1866, the construction was delayed and work did not begin until the following year. In 1872, the freight station was put into operation, after the goods sheds were relocated the previous year. However, the complete completion of the station did not occur until five years later, in 1877. However, after the end of the GDR and the purchase of the Reichsbahn by the Deutsche Bahn many parts of it were closed down and demolished.
