The original factory was established in a building called ‘Lange Bau’ by Johann Christian von Weiß in 1836. Formerly the building was used for the production of cobalt blue, which ingredients were mined in local mines. The new established full mechanical spinning mill was the first of its kind in whole Germany. The ‘Lange Bau’ which was a half-timbered house was renovated into a full brick building in order to provide the newly needed stability. In the beginning the machines were man powered, but soon the first steam engine was acquired in 1827. During the end of the 19th century the entire factory transferred to the newly built factory buildings which we photographed in the gallery below. The factory was closed down in 1991 soon after the end of the GDR. Nowadays the ‘Lange Bau’ is renovated while the factory is completely abandoned and in a very bad shape.
