The vacation home was built in the beginning of the GDR and run by the VEB Carl Zeiss Jena in the small village Remschütz near Saalfeld. Like other ‘Ferienlager’ as they were called in the GDR, it served to provide a vacation place for children in the Summer. Certain group events were organized in these camps, which often included themes like sport or nature. All of them closed down after the end of the GDR and were rather run by a new investor or were left to decay.
