Capturing decay.

Antique shop

The building was constructed as part of the Gebr. Albert KG weaving mill. The factory was founded in 1860 and was specialized on producing high-quality fabric for costumes and clothing. In 1939 the Albert family had problems with the racial policies in the Third Reich which led to other companies being assigned to the buildings. During the invasion of the Americans a grenade stroke the weaving hall of the factory, which caught fired and burned out. Many looms and were destroyed but a restart was tried anyway, which proved to not be very successful.

During the years 1947 and 1955 the buildings were used by the companies “Feutron” and “Förster” for paper processing. The Albert family was expropriated in 1949 and the factory became a part of the newly founded VEB Novotex in 1953. In the year 1970 it became part of the VEB Greika and was used as a warehouse. Insufficient profit led to the end of the factory in 1997. Soon after, a lot of its buildings were demolished. However, some of them were renovated like the one we visited. It housed an antique shop and a GDR museum for many years. Unfortunately, a fire broke out in 2016 which severely damaged the building and let to its final abandonment.
