The factory produced dairy products for the brand ‘Osterland’ since 1938 and was named VEB Milchhof Gera during the GDR. Since 1991 Osterland existed again as a brand and the factory was partially refurbished for one million D-Mark in 1992. However, it made its last milk delivery in 1995 and closed down soon after. The production was transferred to Erfurt afterwards. The area was purchased by an investor in 2013 who had plans to refurbish the property, but these were never carried out. During the last 10 years the buildings were set on fire multiple times, turning the white paint in the main hall to black due to the soot.
