The dance hall ‘Gesellschaftshaus Wintergarten’ was constructed in the 1910s and was used to host celebrations, live performances and dances. Even exhebitions, conferences and theater perfomances took place in the building till it closed down after the end of the GDR in the 90s. Since then no suitable investor was found to save the building and it decayed further. In the years 2001 and 2013 plans were made to refurbish the building but were never carried out. In 2011 a gas station was planned to be constructed on the property and the ball house was scheduled to be demolished but yet again this didn’t happen. In January 2020 the attic of the building was set on fire and signifitcantly worsened its condition. After the roof broke in during the first quarter of 2021 the building demolished completely in August 2021. In early 2022, the building was demolished by the government of Gera.
