Capturing decay.

Train station Lichte

The train station opened in January 1899 under the name ‘Bock-Wallendorf’ and severed as a new endpoint of the train line Probstzella-Taubenbach. Later in 1913 when the train line was expanded it became a through station but lost a lot of its significance, especially in the freight transport. In the year 1952 it got renamed in ‘Lichte (Thür) Ost’. About 10 years later, the freight dispatch was discontinued and was mainly used as a water station for uphill driving steam locomotives. In January 1997 the station was suddenly closed down and a large part of the train line was abandoned as well a couple of years later. A fire broke out in 2005 which destroyed most of the roof of the station building.
