The building like many others belonged to the ‘HO (Handelsorganisation)’ during the GDR. They had a large network of restaurants all over Eastern Germany and were owned directly by the government. They leased already existing restaurants and many of the ones which closed down in the war. The former owners and workers were then employed by the HO. After the end of the GDR, the HO was disbanded and many restaurants got privatized again. However many closed down, like the HO-Gaststätte Freundschaft in Bad Brambach. It was also used as a hotel and had a big hall adjoined to it. In its last years, the building was run as an Italian restaurant before it finally closed its doors in the 2010s.
