The factory was part of the ‘VEB Kaolin- und Tonwerke Salzmünde’ and was called ‘Werk Spergau’. It was used to produce kaolin and clay during the time of the GDR. Due to the fall of the iron curtain and the increasing economical problems the whole plant was abandoned in the 90s.
