Capturing decay.

The future of finding abandoned places

I know I’m somewhat talking to a wall or myself in those news posts ever since starting to make them, because well, who really cares about that. To be fair, most of you on this site are here for the locations/places I guess.

So… good news for you, I might have found a better way to locate abandoned places than with this site. (If you don’t know already) As of 2024 the website lostplace.club hosts a community based map of abandoned locations nearly everywhere in Germany. I would have killed for something like that back in 2016. It seems to be easy now, just look at the map and pick what you like. Read reviews of others to see if it’s still open, if its worth it, if it’s good enough… Get all the information needed. I am kind of happy that this secret keeping, which was a core part of this community, seems to have come to an end. Since the beginning I never supported this completely secretive handling of the location and name of abandoned places.

People post openly about entry points and all the other stuff. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great this way, but somehow it takes away this feeling of heading into the unknown and searching for yourself, making your own scouting and planning for a sneaky entry. I don’t really know why I’m complaining, I sound like an old man hating on new stuff that makes life easier…

I was really happy to provide some locations that weren’t featured anywhere, guess that’s mostly over now. Everything explorers need to know is there on lostplaces.club, summarized in a straightforward way. This way sending a counter-signal to all those “elitist secretive Urbex websites” on the internet. And that’s a good thing. As long as nothing gets put behind a paywall.
