Capturing decay.

Schooling workshop of VEB WEMA Gera

The buildings were used as a workshop by the VEB WEMA Union Gera to train their apprentices. The main factory was founded as ‘Karl-Wetzel-Maschinenfabrik’ in 1852 and united with the factory ‘Werkzeugmaschinen Union’ of Chemnitz in 1936. After the 2nd world war the factory owners got expropriated and each of the two united factories functioned as separated parts of the Werkzeugmaschinenkombinat ‘Fritz Heckert’. The factory in Gera produced drilling, milling and bending machines in the GDR and closed down in 1994. All the other buildings which were spread across Gera are already demolished or refurbished.
