FDGB-FerienHeim Fritz Heckert

The Ferienheim Fritz Heckert was the first new building in the history of tourism in the GDR. It was constructed in the years 1952 to 1954 in the style of classic modern on behalf of the FDGB, which was there to provide vacation places for the people of the GDR. The name was chosen to honor KPD politician Fritz Heckert who died in 1936. It opened its doors on the 11th of July 1954 and got expanded in 1969 with another building which provided space for 150 additional beds. It got closed instantaneously after the GDR came to an end in the year 1990.
